As the sun disappeared from the English skies we were back to the usual grey clouds. There were some fears that the game may be cancelled completely as thunder and lightning lit up the Trafford skies. The Metros boys were in good spirit and were more concerned about the lightning than the opposition.

 

The first quarter was action packed and saw the Metros go down 4 - 3. The second quarter saw Metros go down a further 3 - 1, leaving the score at 7 – 4 at half time. Coaches re adjusted our defence tactics and Metros won the final two quarters by 2 – 1. Leaving the final score at a very respectable 8 – 9 to Timperley.

 

Metros gave a sterling performance in the last quarter and almost clinched a draw with our team encamped around the Timperley cage for the last 10 minutes of the game. It got really nail biting as we drew a penalty with only six seconds to go. However tactics from the coaches for such an event were not up to par. Something we need to brush up on in the states. Goals came from Russell, Ridings, Jordan, Hackett and a very pleasing first from Edward Chapman.

 

Obviously our hearts at this time are with the Cantello family, as today is the funeral of Al Cantello, the Kent Island coach and very dear friend. We will hopefully have a minutes silence after our last practice on Saturday as a sign of respect before we leave English soil.
