Metros U13 vs Brooklands 03 July 2010

Match report sponsored by Bluefish Plc

Stockport Metros turned out on another sunny day to face a large Brookland squad on Astro turf. All this training, in reasonably warm weather, is good practice for the heat in Maryland. Metros had a good start, until our normally reliable Will Donavon dropped the ball casually into his own net. This fact is never to be mentioned again, especially by his mother. Other than this minor hiccup both keepers had excellent performances between the pipes, only letting in 4 goals apiece in each half. Coaches are happy that this area of the team is very secure and are very content to have two players of such specialist, expertise, up and ready for the tour.
The first quarter saw Metros going up 3 – 2. By half time Metros were up 6 – 3 showing some very good movement off the ball and excellent goals from some very good plays and cuts. Coaches were happy that they had got all the middy strings, with a good balance of players and all their players were in the correct positions. Stephen Cole for instance as LSM, having an excellent game. The third quarter saw the Metros play excelling even more; adding another three goals to lead by 9 – 3; going into the final quarter. Russell and Robinson both hitting the Brookland’s post, as the opposition struggled against the Metro's movement with and without the ball.
The 4th quarter saw some very dubious crease goals given to the opposition, with them coming out on top by five goals to two. Leaving the final score at 11 – 8. Coaches were not too concerned as the last 5 minutes saw examples of our best play yet. Shots reigning in on the Brookland’s static defence and Metros still retaining possession. Goals were spread around the team with Hackett 1, Russell 1, Ridings 2, Baythorpe 4, Bullock 1 and Millar 2. Coaches felt the defence was solid with a very good performance from Alex Jordan.
Our next training sessions will be concentrating on midfield defence. Well done to all the boys and a big thanks to all the parents that came along to cheer us on.
